As a mom and CCLS, I knew my 3-year-old was going to have a hard time with my gallbladder surgery, as I knew some of the care at home was going to need to shift to my husband. I had fun making this book and it also helped me think through what the surgery day and recovery would look like. I loved being able to incorporate pictures of our family. We read the book to her the day before the surgery so she could ask questions and be prepared for someone else to pick her up from school and that I would be home but would need to rest for a few days. She then requested to read the book every night for the next several days following the surgery as she processed the changes (careful hugging Mommy, not being able to pick her up, etc.). I think this book really helped her to understand what was going on and how she could help Mommy after surgery! I will definitely be using this in the future should any other surgeries come up within our family!
